Before heading to Ayder, Çamlıhemşin or Uzungöl, is Trabzon Airport (TZX) or Rize-Artvin Airport (RZV) the better fit? A guide to help you decide based on your destination, flight schedule and the season.

Two airports, one region: why the choice matters

You can reach this part of the eastern Black Sea coast through two airports: Trabzon Airport (TZX) and Rize-Artvin Airport (RZV). Both are genuine gateways to the region; which one suits you better depends on your destination, your flight schedule and the season.

There is no single right answer here, because Ayder/Çamlıhemşin and Uzungöl are not equally close to either airport. So rather than steering you toward one airport, this page walks through the concrete comparison so you can decide for your own situation; booking itself happens on our separate pages.

The RZV context for Ayder and Çamlıhemşin

If you are heading to Ayder or Çamlıhemşin, Rize-Artvin Airport (RZV) offers a geographically closer and more natural gateway context. RZV serves Rize province, and both destinations sit within it.

That said, Trabzon Airport (TZX) is also a genuine, secondary option for Ayder and Çamlıhemşin. We give no fixed duration or distance figure here; it depends on current road and traffic conditions.

The TZX context for Uzungöl

If you are heading to Uzungöl, Trabzon Airport (TZX) remains the primary and generally more practical airport context. Uzungöl's own transfer page treats TZX as the primary context too.

Rize-Artvin Airport (RZV) can also be a secondary option for Uzungöl, particularly if your programme routes through another stop toward Rize. Again, we give no fixed duration or distance figure here.

Choosing by flight schedule, season and road conditions

Beyond your destination, which airport fits your flight schedule also matters. For both airports, flight frequency and the route network vary by airline, travel date and season. For this reason, we recommend checking current flight options through your preferred airline or booking platform; we do not publish a flight list here that could go out of date.

In addition, mountain and highland roads in the area can be affected by seasonal conditions — snow, fog or heavy rain in winter months. Vanvia does not guarantee an exact arrival time in either direction; we review the plan together against that day's real conditions.

Transfer from either airport with Vanvia

Whichever airport you choose, Vanvia plans your transfer to your accommodation address where lawful vehicle access is available, or to the nearest lawful public access point if the final approach is restricted. In fact, our RZV and TZX pages set out each airport's own pickup and transfer process in detail.

For example, if you are unsure, you can share your destination and flight options with us; we can weigh up together which one might suit your programme better. Of course, the final decision is always yours.
